Mundane

Mundane

Forget the mundane Thoughts that flow, Old as the balcony And afternoon crow. Don’t lock yourself In a sombre sun, Let go your despair It’s not that fun. Leave your cup of Evening tea, Forget you’re one Household bee. Be one in the crowd Sweat and shout, Feel you’re the spring Of eternal spout. Foods, sweets, munchies All that you want, Savour the taste and Flare up your lust. I am the beautiful Colours you miss, It is the cacophony Of freedom & bliss. I am the never fading Hope for sure, I outshine the gloom My heart is so pure. I am … Read entire article »

All that strange

Where it all started? We will have to go back, Back and far indeed, To the house in the suburbs of Kolkata, The brown, mossy wall Past the fertile kitchen garden, And the world of unknown beyond that, The smell that came out of the soil After first rain of the season, The taste of freshly grown peapods, Oh! I can always go back to them; Them and the friends I had, No matter how hard it is to row on. Now, a growing houseplant on my window Mocks me, Strange We are only as free as we want to be. We started together, The boys from neighbourhood, I watched them play, cheer and wave I could not wait To be old enough To get into their game, They pushed me from behind I fell down, cut my chin and bled, “I don’t know the rules”, I cried; It must have hurt back then Now, it … Read entire article »

Sojourn

Sojourn

I am not going to come down Get into your lap, Smile or play, I won’t be a good cat today. No, I don’t want to eat From the bowl, Or sip the milk You’ve kept ready for me, ‘Silk’. You thought I always loved you When I purred, Or licked your feet- Oh! no, that’d be mere weak. I so wanted to break free From the leash, Yes, always And deceived you with pleas. Today, I will hunt my own food With paws, And wait, till I find a partner to mate. I have … Read entire article »

Kolkata Panorama [8] – Different

Kolkata Panorama [8] – Different

Previous I have a small mud-house Shady, comfortable As a soothing nest, There is no strong wind At the advent of summer That can rip it apart. No heavy rain, That can wash the straw roof away- It is not big enough But makes the perfect home. I have two children; Brightest of the lot, I can not afford new books or clothes for them Every year, Yet they Love me and tell me I am the best father And their role model Knowing I went to jail once For the smuggling, I still have to … Read entire article »

Revolution

The day, as it began Showed no promise to be different, The oppressed, ill fated souls watched Another sun rising from the east, Tearing up the darkness, Little they knew- It, for once, was meant to be destiny. The guns never gave up Obstinate roars, With mere glimpses of hope, The never ending attempt For resistance Was falling apart, When completely lifeless objects Claimed lives. Voices, Choked in hunger, Spoke out; Crumbling legs Stood up, The stir spread like fire and swept everything on its way; No one cried from Anguish, loss or disillusionment Anymore, Tears spilled in joy When the years of servitude Was beginning to end. The day was different For those Who lived to see the end of it. I am linking this poem to Dversepoets OpenLinkNight, Week 45. You can also participate every Tuesdays, 3 PM EST and read some wonderful poetry. Tweet … Read entire article »
