All that strange

Where it all started? We will have to go back, Back and far indeed, To the house in the suburbs of Kolkata, The brown, mossy wall Past the fertile kitchen garden, And the world of unknown beyond that, The smell that came out of the soil After first rain of the season, The taste of freshly grown peapods, Oh! I can always go back to them; Them and the friends I had, No matter how hard it is to row on. Now, a growing houseplant on my window Mocks me, Strange We are only as free as we want to be. We started together, The boys from neighbourhood, I watched them play, cheer and wave I could not wait To be old enough To get into their game, They pushed me from behind I fell down, cut my chin and bled, “I don’t know the rules”, I cried; It must have hurt back then Now, it … Read entire article »

Love, hate

Love, hate

When you are not around me, It is weird how mind plays its trick I just don’t want to be alone, And it entices me to brace myself. I ache for … Read entire article »

Quest

When I get to my feet and face you, It is no more a question of Meagre existence to me; I do not remember Who am I or Where I was born, Anymore; Vastness overwhelm me, and Silence engulf me, My desires defy senses, I feel I have wings, and I can set off in quest of the forbidden world. You helped me to look beyond The three shades of time, And interpret The untold stories of this habitat - Of men and their hardship, Of women and their despair, Of kids and their … Read entire article »

Tell a tale

Tell a tale

It is now lost somewhere, and I know, it’s not obscure, Somewhere it can be easily found, Perhaps in the same neighborhood, Now grown so indifferent; Or in a matted dream From not so distant past As oblivion; and I am hopeful, What was once ours Can surely be found. Adolescence was in fact queer, To me, And the rest of us, Facing the unknown, What we were told, Were risks; Stopped to be questioned By the elders all along; Yet every moment, However small Or insignificant, Made us feel so special, Adorned with happiness- I have never been … Read entire article »

Sojourn

Sojourn

I am not going to come down Get into your lap, Smile or play, I won’t be a good cat today. No, I don’t want to eat From the bowl, Or sip the milk You’ve kept ready for me, ‘Silk’. You thought I always loved you When I purred, Or licked your feet- Oh! no, that’d be mere weak. I so wanted to break free From the leash, Yes, always And deceived you with pleas. Today, I will hunt my own food With paws, And wait, till I find a partner to mate. I have … Read entire article »
